Joint floriculture decision regarding IPM 2021 participation
This week 19 companies reached a joint decision in regard to their participation at the coming IPM in January 2021, and co-signed the following statement:
“In light of the recent developments concerning COVID-19, the ongoing risk for our customers and employees and the responsibility that we see as our duty to help stop the spread of the virus, we have decided not to take part in IPM 2021.”
Risk for customers and staff
Based on the current knowledge about COVID-19 and the constantly changing strict international regulations and restrictions, all companies agree that they do not want to expose their customers and staff to the increased risks which participation would automatically bring. Until now the floriculture sector has come through this pandemic relatively unscathed. This has also been achieved through various collaborations within the sector. Their additional conclusion, therefore, was that the sector should be contributing to the elimination of the virus, rather than participating in an international trade show increasing the risk of further contamination.
IPM 2022
As the companies listed have been regular participants at IPM for many years, it was a difficult but nonetheless highly necessary decision to take. Hoping for better times, they look forward to the prospect of participating again in 2022.

California Spring Trials: introductions 2021
This year is unlike any other. Normally we would meet each other during the California Spring Trials and talk about the upcoming season. The whole industry is facing challenges and is working hard to deal with the consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Even though we won’t be meeting each other in California, we would still like to share with you the new genetics and products that HilverdaFlorist has to offer for 2021!
We realise that the upcoming sales season will be one with many challenges. We are here to support you in any way we can. Do not hesitate to contact us with your questions or concerns.

Garvinea Cheeky Series
The Garvinea Cheeky Series is completely new in the Garvinea Garden Gerbera Assortment. Garvinea Cheeky has a compact crop and shows its cheeky mini flowers from spring till frost. The mini-flowered series consists of four strong colours; Magenta, Orange, Red and Yellow. The strong Garvinea genetics is the basis of this uniform plant.
Don’t be misled by the cuteness, because the Cheeky Series produces the highest flower count of all the Garvinea Series.
Garvinea Majestic Series
The Garvinea Majestic Series is a great addition to the Garvinea Garden Gerbera assortment. The Garvinea Majestic Series is a strong garden plant with elegant double flowers. This magnificent series consists of three colours: yellow, light pink and burgundy. As you can expect from a Garvinea it creates long-lasting flowers, attracts friendly pollinators and has great weather tolerance.
The double flowered Majestic are an extraordinary sight in every garden and border.
Patio Gerbera Glorious Series
The Patio Gerbera Glorious is a diva on your patio. The stylish and voluminous plants, with stunning double flowers up to 6″, stand out in the crowd and catch everyone’s eye on a terrace or patio. This series contains four bright colors: yellow, orange, purple and white. Perfect to combine in a mixed patio planter or to be used as stand alone.
With its show-stopping flowers Patio Gerbera Glorious are a true retail favorite.
Salgoon Strawberry Lake
Strawberry Lake is a unique red in the Salvia Salgoon Series. It’s a vigorous plant with great foliage and many vibrant flowers. The strong red calyxes and magenta flowers retain its colour. The Salvia Salgoon keeps on growing even without pruning stems. The Salgoon Series consists of the colors: purple, blue, dark rose and magenta red. These varieties consist of the same genetics and grows uniformly and have a heavy bloom set.
Merger HilverdaFlorist captured in new identity
On March 1 2020 the merger between HilverdaKooij and Florist Holland is legally a fact. Since 1 September 2019 both organizations have been operating together under the name HilverdaFlorist. In order to seal the merger the new identity and the corresponding corporate style were presented today. The logo and corporate identity were unveiled by Commercial Director Bart Sneek.
Bart explains, ‘The new corporate style reinforces our new identity and will contribute to a high degree of recognition. The new logo is a symbol that stands for working together and connecting parties. As a breeder we are at the beginning of the supply chain and we believe it is important to invest and create into strong long-term partnerships with our partners, customers and suppliers. This is reflected, for example, in the global sales network we have and our own production locations in Colombia, Kenya and India. This enables us to provide all customers worldwide with the best products and advice’.

During IPM HilverdaFlorist will introduce a complete new Garvinea Garden Gerbera Series and an unique red Salvia. Be the first to see these magnificent plants during IPM and visit our stand in hall 2 C11. In our stand in hall 1 A24 you get the full experience of our pot, patio and garden assortment.
New series Garvinea Cheeky
The Garvinea Cheeky series is complete new in the garden gerbera assortment. Garvinea Cheeky has a compact crop and shows it’s cheeky mini flowers from Spring till Frost. Unique Red Salvia Strawberry Lake
HilverdaFlorist introduces a unique red Salvia in the Salgoon Series; Strawberry Lake. This sensational new variety is as versatile as it is beautiful. Strawberry Lake is a vigorous plant with great foliage and many vibrant flowers. The strong red, with a magenta touch, calyxes retains its colours and the Salvia keeps on growing without pruning stems. Strawberry Lake is the perfect colourful addition for the Salgoon Series. This series is based on the same strong genetics, grows uniform and has a heavy bloom set. The Salvia Salgoon series is a great choice for gardens and patio containers.

Bart Sneek has been appointed as the new commercial director of HilverdaFlorist and thus joins the management team. Bart Sneek succeeds Melchior Moen, who recently left HilverdaFlorist.
Bart Sneek is no stranger to the company and has worked for HilverdaKooij before. After a period of working at PanAmerican Seed, Bart returns to HilverdaFlorist to work on a powerful organization focused on growth and innovation. With a strong commercial focus Bart will be the link between Sales, Marketing, Breeding and the market/ customers. With Bart Sneek as commercial director, the management is complete, consisting of production and R&D director Arthur Koekkoek and financial director Marc Rost.

Kahori Scarlet is perennial top performer
The Dianthus Kahori® Scarlet was chosen as a perennial top performer by Colorado State University. A perennial is considered for the “Top Performer” award if it has maintained superior performance in the ground for two winters and three growing seasons in the Flower Trial Garden. The jury comment was:
“Very showy in the spring with a very vibrant color and attractive plants. Flower color was not a true scarlet but a beautiful shade of hot rose or cherry. Plants had superior winter hardiness that was consistent over three years and did not die out in the center as did many other Dianthus. Plants were attractive even when not in bloom with a nice tidy, compact growth habit.”
The Kahori Scarlet is part of our Beauties series. Beauties is a series of amazing Dianthus varieties with Remarkable vigour. These perennial varieties develop into perfect, low maintenance plants. HilverdaFlorist will present as one company during California Spring Trials in March 2020 on the location of American Takii in Salinas California.
Florist Holland has been able to present herself with great success at Grolink Plants in Oxnard for the past years. During this successful period Florist Holland has made herself visible as the gerbera specialist on the North American market. We look look back with pleasure and gratitude on this period. Due to the merger between HilverdaKooij and Florist Holland we want to present ourselves as a new organization for the North American market.
HilverdaKooij has a long partnership with Takii Seed and as HilverdaFlorist we’re looking forward to continue this strong relationship and work together in the future.
